The Strategy Development Technician will assist Kawartha Conservation staff by participating in the development of a stewardship strategy for the Kawartha watershed. This will include community outreach, stakeholder engagement, stakeholder review coordination, execution of an ecosystem services assessment for the Kawartha watershed, development of written and visual communication materials to convey technical information, fund raising for strategy implementations initiatives, writing and reviewing technical reports, and developing a GIS model for implementation prioritization.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Organisation and participation in public meetings and workshops including creation and delivery of presentations
  • Researching existing models for landscape wide ecosystem goods and services valuation and making recommendation for a model to apply to the Kawartha watershed
  • Running an analysis of the values of the Kawartha watershed ecosystem goods and services
  • Assist in the development and application of a stewardship prioritization tool
  • Drafting communications materials such as brochures, fact sheets, media releases and content for social media and web pages
  • Drafting funding proposals to support stewardship and implementation initiatives
  • Other assignments as required

  • Ability to interpret technical documents such as lake management plans
  • Demonstrated fundraising skills
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and visual communication skills; including public speaking and meeting facilitation
  • GIS and database management skills an asset

Education required

Graduate of a post-secondary program in community development, strategic planning, ecosystem or natural resource management or environmental planning.

Certification required

  • Valid M.T.O driver's license, clean driving record
  • GIS certification an asset
