Description

This position is ideal for a candidate with an engineering background. The role of solar designer will involve processing data collected by site inspectors into optimized rooftop panel layouts (training on techniques/methods will be provided). The successful candidate will have high attention to detail, clear communication skills and be able to work in a fast paced environment. A background in electrical engineering is considered an asset, but not required.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare and design solar engineering layouts (AutoCAD 2D) and 3D models
  • Ensure designs are accurate and submitted on time
  • Communicate with customers and clients
  • Document and oversee steps and progress of projects
  • Coordinate with site inspectors, designers and engineers as necessary

Knowledge and skills

  • Engineering/Design background
  • Must be returning to post-secondary school in the Fall of 2018
  • Experience with AutoCAD is considered a strong asset
  • Time management
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong communication
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Able to work independently and as a team

Education required

Engineering background preferred

Qualified interns are:

  • Post-secondary students and graduates
  • No more than 30 years of age at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving employment insurance during their internship
  • Available to work for at least six months
  • Not previous participants of a federal youth employment program
  • Not employees of the hiring employer prior to the start of their internship (does not apply to previous coop students or student interns)

*Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment Strategy initiative.
