The SDG Ambassador – Marketing and Outreach Coordination internship is a part-time, short-term contract opportunity for an individual who is passionate about social impact, technology, and community.  This opportunity is an amazing way to develop your communication and business skills in a social enterprise context, work on interesting projects, and experience what working in a startup-like environment is all about. Duties and responsibilities

The SDG Ambassador – Marketing and Outreach Coordination is a vital team member in the delivery of SDG activities at the college, engaged in developing their relevant skills in a work-integrated learning environment, while also learning more about the SDGs and social entrepreneurship. Activities include initiatives led by the SDG Innovation Lab, such as boot camps, hack-a-thons, workshops, network and investor events, and incubation programs. The role reports to the Manager, Scale-up Programs and Services, Centre of Entrepreneurship and will undertake the following:

  • Participate in the SDG Innovation Lab planning process
  • Coordinate outreach activities and educate others on the SDGs
  • Participate in branding and marketing activities and coordinate social media campaigns
  • Support content coordination and event logistics activities

Knowledge and skills

  • Willingness to learn
  • Basic knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and their importance
  • Relevant academic and/or work experience such as Marketing or Communications, International Development or Business studies, and marketing, communication and community outreach experience. Program and event coordination experience is desirable
  • Knowledge and/or experience with relevant software, including MS Office, social media (twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and communications
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, responsible and resourceful
  • Capacity to adapt to new situations and work schedules quickly
  • Ability and willingness to work remotely

Education required

Any relevant post-secondary education (in progress or completed), including Marketing, Communications and Business, particularly in a sustainability related discipline, such International Development studies.

Eligibility criteria

Qualified interns are:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada1
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Available to participate in an ImpAct internship for a flexible duration of up to 6 months by March 1, 2021
  • Not employees of the hiring employer prior to the start of their internship (does not apply to previous coop students or student interns, although this must be clearly indicated by the employer)

1Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment Strategy initiative.
