Lambton College provides strong support to local, regional and national industry partners through diverse research projects. The intern will apply their knowledge to solve real life problems and working with Project Lead to optimize the growing conditions for ginseng and identifying the mechanism of the toxic impact on the soil.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Report to research department staff
  2. Learn and follow safety protocol
  3. Assist with research projects covering the area of plant culture, photosynthesis rate testing, plant health, plant tissue culture
  4. Take samples on a regular basis for analysis
  5. Troubleshoot issues that arise with support of Research Staff
  6. Create daily logs and interim reports
  7. Document standard operating procedures

Knowledge and skills

-knowledge of horticulture, plant tissue culture
-work experience in one of the following areas will be an asset: hydroponic system, plant health monitoring, plant tissue culture, photosynthesis rate measurement

-strong communication and organization skills
-detail oriented, multitasking
-good team player

Education required

undergraduate or college students, in science (horticulture, biology, biotechnology)

Certification required

Qualified interns are:

  • Between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving employment insurance during their internship
  • Available to work for at least six months
  • Not previous participants of a federal youth employment program

*Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment Strategy initiative.
