Description

Sea to Sky Energy Solutions( S2SES) manages, oversees, and develops technology for Run of River hydro-electric power facilities. Our portfolio of services is divided in 3 groups: consulting and development of Run-of-River projects, hydro-electricity facilities management and operation, and development of turn-key solutions for optimizing facility production.

We are looking for a Research & Development Engineer to be the lead project engineer that will support the development of 2 of the  technology turn-key solutions that S2SES is currently focusing on. The technology solutions are being developed to  increase  the productivity of hydro electricity generation in Run-of-River facilities, while also addressing some of the environmental impacts associated with hydro-electricity generation.

The  Research & Development Engineer  will be responsible of progressing each project along with cost tracking, scheduling, and reporting.

Duties and responsibilities

    • Act as lead Project Engineer managing the development of 2 technology systems intended to increase  the productivity of hydroelectricity generation from Run-of River facilities, specific tasks include:
      • Design and build prototype models
      • Development and design of some of the system components
      • Trial models in testing apparatus
      • Conceptual design on scaling a system for alternative hydro facilities
      • Scale systems to full size models
      • Continually progress and refine system design
      • Execute the installation of technology systems
      • Monthly progress reporting and cost reporting on the systems development
      • Manage academic collaborative research agreements
      • Conduct market research and build/refine business case

Knowledge and skills

The candidate requires:

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree or College diploma in an energy related discipline.
  • Strong work ethic, self-directed, achievement focussed with strong attention to details.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and work effectively independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to complete projects while working under deadlines/budget.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong PC applications and computer skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety.

Education required

Education Required

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or College diploma in an energy related discipline.

Certification required

 

  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, access to a vehicle.
  • First Aid/CPR and Bear Awareness training and certifications will be considered asset.
  • MS Office skills required.
  • AutoCAD skills an asset.
  • Applicant will be encouraged to comments on other skills they think may be relevant to the internship.

Qualified interns are:

  • Between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving employment insurance during their internship
  • Available to work for at least six months
  • Not previous participants of a federal youth employment program
  • Not employees of the hiring employer prior to the start of their internship (does not apply to previous coop students or student interns)

*Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment Strategy initiative.
