Description

The Junior technologist will be supporting the design of complex land development projects, which include large-scale residential, industrial, and commercial developments around Calgary. The role requires an in-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, as part of the responsibilities include providing design and drafting support for road and utility designs. The candidate will be preparing engineering record drawings for land development projects and also work on construction inspection.

Duties and responsibilities

The candidate will be working on the following:

  • Provide design/drafting support for road and utility design of land development projects
  • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D in projects from concept to completion
  • Preparation of specifications and reports
  • Preparation of engineering record drawings for land development projects
  • Construction inspection on projects in Calgary and area
  • Resolving construction issues with the assistance of site project manager and field supervisors
  • Quantity measurements, daily reporting, and participation in construction meetings
  • Completion of construction as-built for record-keeping/approval purposes

Knowledge and skills

The candidate should possess the following:

  • Strong working knowledge and experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D is an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, works well under pressure and able to deal with situations with tact
  • Demonstrated ability to perform individually or as a member of project teams
  • Comfortable working independently in both an office and field environment

Education required

  • Civil Engineering degree or technology diploma

Qualified interns are:

  • Post-secondary students and graduates
  • No more than 30 years of age at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Available to work for at least six months
  • Not previous participants of a federal youth employment program
  • Not employees of the hiring employer prior to the start of their internship (does not apply to previous coop students or student interns)

*Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment Strategy initiative.
