Qool Media is looking for a creative and innovative Front End Developer to join our publishing team to create and maintain new and existing web-based tools and progressive web apps. This role is a full-time position located at our company headquarters in Guelph, ON. This role is eligible for participation in the Career Launcher Digital Tech internship program for qualified candidates.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design, create, and maintain progressive web apps
  • Design, create, and maintain front-end tools and UI components
  • Work with project stakeholders to design and help build websites across multiple verticals
  • Work with the development team to implement and maintain feature rich web elements that are responsive and optimized for mobile experience
  • Organize and maintain organizational structure of code repositories
  • Assist the development team in diagnosing and finding solutions to bugs in existing and future projects

Knowledge and skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with Angular and jQuery
  • Experience with CSS3, Sass, and HTML5
  • Experience with cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility best practices
  • Experience with API communication standards using XML and/or JSON
  • Git version control and continuous integration standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to remain up-to-date on current trends in design and web publishing
  • Excellent time management skills and organization for a fast-paced environment

Qualifications that will set you apart:

  • Experience with latest versions of Angular (i.e. Angular 6 or 7)
  • Familiarity with .NET framework
  • A passion for all things Internet and digital media
  • The ability to take and use constructive criticism and the tact and strength needed to give it
  • Self-starter who will speak up if you see something that can be done better
  • Familiarity with Social and Digital Marketing concepts
  • The ability to effectively mediate pizza topping choices

Education required

A degree or diploma in computer science or the confidence to convince us you don't need it because you're just that good.

Qualified interns are:

  • Post-secondary graduates – this is not a requirement for residents of the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut applying for internships in those territories
  • Underemployed (employed below their level of education or work part-time)
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving employment insurance during their internship
  • Available to work for at least six months
  • Not previous participants of a federal youth employment program

*Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment and Skills Strategy initiative.
