Description

GreenStep Solutions is seeking a self-starting and high energy individual to help us coordinate and deliver programs and services around energy efficiency, renewable energy, and carbon reduction for small and mid-sized businesses through utility partner programs, our Sustainable Tourism Certification program and our unique carbon reduction eco-funding program

 

Duties and responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Site visits to small and medium sized businesses to provide energy efficiency education and undertake assessment of opportunties for energy efficiency
  • Virtual energy assessments for clients to help assess current energy management programs and completed energy efficiency projects to determine next investments in energy efficiency
  • Support to help businesses identify and access rebate opportunties
  • Support to help businesses identify technical contractors and suppliers
  • Support to help businesses implement energy efficiency projects
  • Reporting and program administration support
  • Development of case studies
  • Support business development opportunities through the creation of financial projects that estimate cost savings, energy savings, return on investment and pay pack period.
  • Development of case studies that demonstrate success
  • Development of resources to support businesses in improving their energy efficiency

Knowledge and skills

Training will be provided to the right individual, but the following knowledge and skills will be an asset:

  • Understanding of how to communicate about energy and energy efficiency
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm related to energy efficiency (work/volunteer experience)
  • Ability to communicate and calculate basic payback period and return on investment scenarios from investments in energy efficiency
  • A keen interest and understanding of sustainability issues, particularly climate change and clean energy
  • Excellent oral and written business communications skills
  • Customer service/sales
  • Familiarity and knowledge of energy efficient technologies (implementation of a project or attendance of a course
  • Experience using common computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Education required

The applicant should possess at least one of the following:

  • BCIT SEMAC (Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate)
  • UBC Masters in Clean Energy: Completion of the Demand-Side Energy Efficiency & Conservation course
  • Yorkville University Energy Management Specialization
  • Douglas College Building Energy and Resource Management program certificate
  • Proof of passing the Certified Energy Manager exam under the Canadian Institute for Energy Training
  • Certified Energy Manager in training designation from the Canadian Institute for Energy Training
  • Masters in sustainability and planning

Eligibility criteria

Qualified interns are:

  • Between the ages of 15-30 (inclusive) at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving employment insurance during their internship
  • Available to work for at least six months
  • Not previous participants of a federal youth employment program
  • Not employees of the hiring employer prior to the start of their internship (does not apply to previous coop students or student interns)

*Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment Strategy initiative.
