eOceans was founded with the belief that future oceans can teem with life and be radically more exciting and valuable than they are today if we can make faster and more collaborative discoveries.

We are looking for a data scientist to join our team in Halifax, NS to help build the next generation of ocean science tools.

You'll get to work on a modern tech stack, and improve your skills as you work to build out a ton of new data analyses and visualization features with our quickly growing dataset.

You'll get to work with our amazing team, including our Lead Scientist - Dr. Christine Ward- Paige, who is a world leader in crowdsourced ocean data.

Duties and responsibilities

Responsibilities:
- Produce well-organized, optimized, and scalable code for the back end.
- Work in a small agile team to generate optimal data collection procedures
- Work with Lead Scientist to develop and create user-centric data analytics and visualizations
- Collaborate with the design team to refine app UX
- Be involved in decision making around the database architecture and future of the product

Qualified interns are:

  • Post-secondary students and graduates
  • No more than 30 years of age at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving employment insurance during their internship
  • Available to work for at least six months
  • Not previous participants of a federal youth employment program
  • Not employees of the hiring employer prior to the start of their internship (does not apply to previous coop students or student interns)

*Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment Strategy initiative.
