Our team is looking for a new member who can contribute to our renewable energy application software used in workspace fitness devices. These will be incorporated to Borealis Research’s line of products and systems to track and compensate human produced power used to recharge smart gadgets. The intern will work directly in the project designing the wireframes for the mobile app and web app, coding the front end of the webapp and supporting the embedded software engineer in the coding of the mobile and web app. The intern will also coordinate with other team members to capture the measurements of the energy produced, stored and distributed, and contribute on the creation of a software and firmware to use those measurements to keep track of the renewable energy produced.

Duties and responsibilities

  • HTML5 and CSS3 coding 
  • Design and develop software wireframes
  • Be able to work in independent projects from start to finish
  • Product and Project management 
  • Be able to generate creative ideas and implement them through functional prototypes
  • Maintain a clear, organized and documented application code
  • Ensure coding quality meets industry standards
  • A desire to positively affect their environment
  • Self-organized and time efficient
  • Assist the patent agent in drafting patent applications
  • Work in interdisciplinary teams including engineering, business and marketing


Knowledge and skills

  • Proficient in HTML5 and CSS3 development
  • Bluetooth and wifi stack knowledge is a plus
  • Project Management skills
  • Vector design skills (Adobe illustrator or similar)

Education required

Canadian equivalent to master of science, business and programming, PhD or Bachelor in the following fields: Computer Science; Business or Arts with computer programming skills

Qualified interns are:

  • Post-secondary students and graduates
  • No more than 30 years of age at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada*
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations
  • Available to work for at least six months
  • Not previous participants of a federal youth employment program
  • Not employees of the hiring employer prior to the start of their internship (does not apply to previous coop students or student interns)

*Refugee protection must be conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Persons awaiting refugee status, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, student visa or work visa, are ineligible to participate in a Youth Employment Strategy initiative.
