As part of a large, regional cooperative, the Sustainability Hub Indigenous Coordinator will co-develop regional sustainability and business plans for the development and operation of the Charlton Sustainability Hub, a rural, community-based educational facility based on local food, renewable energy and affordable low carbon housing. Keepers of the Circle, an Indigenous Hub located in the District of Temiskaming is a member of the cooperative. The Charlton Sustainability Hub mission is to develop and promote the sustainable practices of low carbon living, through hands-on experience, modelling, research, and skill training to build the confidence and connections required to live a healthy, resilient, affordable and rewarding low carbon rural lifestyle by sharing of knowledges, locally at the physical Hub and through our Virtual Hub internet platform. 


Tâches et responsabilités

We are seeking a creative, organized and friendly, person to help facilitate and foster relationship-building during the design-build process. This may include: liaising with members to identify design connections to curriculum and member projects; assisting with space design and implementation; listening to concerns and brainstorming solutions; drafting executive summaries of feedback for transparent reporting; and searching for sources of funding and in-kind donations.

Specific tasks may include:

  • Assisting with creating and implementing a community engagement strategy
  • Designing and managing dynamic teaching sessions that can be adapted to both in-person and online participation.
  • Synthesis of feedback received into clear reports and visually compelling stories (i.e. using images, graphs, Powerpoint, and ideally the Adobe Creative Suite software).
  • Tracking of related data and operational requirements using Excel.
  • Assisting with meeting and action item administration and follow-up.

Connaissances et compétences

  • In-depth knowledge of how physical environments can integrate and demonstrate Sustainability, Accessibility, Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, Indigenous Culture and Heritage.
  • Communication: effective reading, writing, speaking, and active listening skills and comfort with video chat, email, and in-person presentations to relay information clearly and concisely.
  • Research: ability to synthesize findings, provide context for projects, and tell a compelling story from research findings.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving: can identify complex problems and identify patterns and key themes from disparate feedback.
  • Organization, coordination, and time management: able to develop and achieve goals and plans within allocated budget and timeline.
  • Networking and interpersonal: able to build trust and maintain friendly, cooperative working relationships with both internal and external community members
  • Technological: familiarity with data visualization and some graphic design ability for designing outreach communications (Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Creativity and adaptability: ability to thrive in a small team environment, bring forward ideas, and receive feedback.
  • Enjoys bringing people together, sharing new ideas, and conveying information in a way that builds trust and enthusiasm in a project.
  • Detail-oriented.

Scolarité requise

Post-secondary education in a field relating to agriculture, environmental justice

Eligibility criteria

  • Sont âgés entre 15 et 30 ans (inclusivement) au début du stage

  • Sont légalement autorisés à travailler en vertu des lois et règlements provinciaux et fédéraux applicables
  • Sont disponibles à travailler pendant au moins six mois
  • N’ont pas déjà participé à un programme fédéral d’emploi pour les jeunes
  • N’ont pas été employés par l’employeur avant le début du stage (ne s’appliquent pas aux placements ou stages étudiants antérieurs)

*Le statut de réfugié doit être conféré aux termes de la Loi sur l’immigration et la protection des réfugiés.
