Position: Soil Surveyor

Paragon is currently seeking Soil Surveyors to join our team.
POSITION SUMMARY: Paragon provides soil survey and mapping services across most of Canada. Soil surveyors are responsible for executing soil survey programs (no kidding), including ground disturbance preparation, field execution, data management, and reporting. Support for other programs such as soil salvage and revegetation is commonly required. Successful candidates will gain a thorough understanding of various project types, will be cross-trained in vegetation identification, in addition to contributing to the successful reclamation planning of major industrial projects. This position has office and field-based tasks, and includes field shifts of various durations. For you to enjoy this work and be successful, you must naturally have a positive nature, be flexible, like to work outdoors in all (bug and weather) conditions and thrive when working independently within the larger project group. You understand that asking for advice or clarification is not a sign of weakness. You believe that nothing is more important than working safely and protecting those around you. Tâches et responsabilités
Assisting and/or leading soil survey programs, from proposals and project start-up through to the final deliverable submission.
Working cooperatively with technical, HSE and GIS colleagues to successfully deliver our products.
Assisting Project Managers with various tasks as they arise
Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: data management through the collection, entry, synthesis and reporting phases; site seeding; preparing various formats of field reports; ground disturbance preparation, hazard assessment; accurate completion of chain-of-custody forms and delivery to the lab when needed
Providing input on how best to use the technology available to us to improve the soil survey process
Attending workshops, meetings and other similar events
Exercising good judgment in situations that are not covered by policies and procedures
Pursuing continuing education and additional professional development
Preparing regular, timely and accurate timesheets, expense reports and other relevant documentation
Assisting with equipment maintenance and safety
Connaissances et compétences
At least 2 years of soil survey experience
An absolute, genuine dedication to safe work
Ability to work productively independently as well as in a team setting
Demonstrable proficiency applying the Canadian System of Soil Classification
Physical capacity for fieldwork, including augering deep inspection sites
Results-oriented and efficient, with excellent problem solving skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an affinity for working respectfully with colleagues and clients at all levels
Knowledge of and experience with computers and PC software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (at least an intermediate level of proficiency)
Tech-savvy such that advanced GPS units do not scare you
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with a clean drivers abstract (or darn close to it)
Understanding of agricultural practices
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science or Diploma in a related field from a recognized university or college
Eligibility to register with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA)
Safety Certificates: First Aid, Advanced driver training, GDII, H2S, OSSA, CSTS, PCST, WHMIS, Bear Aware, ATV/UTV
