The Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk College is a catalyst to support regional action on climate change and provide opportunities for students to support the development of applied climate change mitigation strategies and initiatives.
Reporting to the Director, the Outreach and Development Intern will assist with communications, outreach and partnership development within the Centre for Climate Change Management. This position will involve close collaboration with staff from the Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk College and the Bay Area Climate Change Council (BACCC). The Outreach and Development Intern will expand the reach of the Centre’s current audience to further engage and elicit the action of our region. The successful applicant will primarily assist in with climate action communications and existing partnerships and should have strong communication, social media and strategy skills as well as a strong interest in sustainability, climate change, carbon management, community engagement and social media.

Tâches et responsabilités
The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with the development and implementation of communication strategies, digital marketing tools, and/or social media campaigns to reach the community, students and external stakeholders
- Support strategy development to better educate others on climate action, sustainable practices and experiential learning opportunities
- Support the planning and implementation of a social media campaign to introduce and further inform audiences of the work completed and opportunities within the Centre for Climate Change Management and Bay Area Climate Change Council
- Create and implement activities to raise awareness on regional climate action
- Assisting with website maintenance and updating learning management system course content
- Assisting in researching, analyzing and reporting on project data
- Supporting engagement and outreach activities for various campaigns within the college and during external events
- Assisting in supporting the Centre and BACCC staff on community climate related projects, initiatives and committees external to the college
Connaissances et compétences
The successful applicant must have:
- Knowledge and understanding of communications and social media networks (i.e. Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram)
- Experience with communication plans, strategy, and social media engagement
- Strong communication, writing and editing skills
- Solid understanding of sustainability theory (social, economic and environmental) and its applications across multiple sectors, and involving multiple stakeholders is considered an asset
- Ability to remain focused and effectively work from home
- Experience in assisting with the collection and proper handling of research data
The successful applicant must be currently enrolled or have completed post-secondary education in the areas of Business, Communications, Marketing or a related field. An interest or background in environmental studies, environmental resource management, sustainability or a related field is considered an asset. Applicants who are in their last year of studies or have already graduated are preferred. Those who do not meet the education requirement, but feel they have adequate and equivalent life experience are encouraged to apply.
