Description

SewerVUE Technology is a technology integrator and service provider for the advanced condition assessment of municipal water and wastewater pipe networks. SewerVUE designs and builds robots and other platforms to inspect pipes from within, using sensors such as LiDAR and sonar, or the company’s proprietary pipe penetrating radar technology.

We have an opportunity for an Electrical Engineering co-op student this year to assist our engineering team with their research and development work. The intern will be involved with the company's research and development projects, with a focus on engineering. SewerVUE Technology develops advanced wastewater pipeline inspection techniques and devices, most prominently two remotely-operated crawler vehicles, and a tethered float-based inspection system. The intern will be working closely with existing engineers on these machines as research and development work is undertaken to improve them.

The intern will assist with mechanical design, and the integration of various sensors, especially LiDAR. This will include research, design and testing of protective enclosures for the sensors. Additional engineering projects the intern will assist with include improvements to the crawlers’ cooling systems, and improvements to the mechanical design of the float system.

Tâches et responsabilités

The day to day duties of the intern will be assisting the company’s senior engineers with research and development projects relating to SewerVUE’s pipeline inspection platforms. This will include researching compatibility and potential material suppliers with regards to LiDAR integration, and assistance with the design and testing of mechanical components. New components and design modifications will primarily be tested in-house. Occasionally, it may be necessary for the engineering team (including the intern) to travel off-site where access to a specific type of pipe is required for testing.

During field projects, the intern will assist with preparation for fieldwork. This includes testing the equipment that will be used, assisting with the development of deployment plans, and helping test safety equipment to ensure it is in good working order prior to deployment. During field deployments, the intern may be on-site to assist with remote operation of the inspection robots, or with the maintenance of the inspection equipment as necessary.
